© ETUI
The latest edition of HesaMag, – already the 30th issue – EU-OSHA’s newest media partner, examines the rapid transformation of work and how the EU is responding to its growing demands with various articles on top EU news including a very useful EU OSH Mapping feature and a special focus on Healthy Teachers, with more than 11 articles.
One of the leading articles reveals the European Commission’s plan to modernise two workplace directives to reflect today’s realities like teleworking and mobile devices; and climate change. In November 2024, the Advisory Committee on Safety and Health at Work unanimously recommended these updates to better protect workers’ physical and mental health. The revisions would expand protections to include home and coworking spaces, mobile screen use, and risks like heatwaves, noise, and cognitive overload.
Drawing on fresh data from the European Survey of Enterprises on New and Emerging Risks (ESENER) and latest ETUI’s research on the fractions and burden of cardiovascular diseases and depression attributable to psychosocial work exposures in the European Union, the magazine also highlights slow progress on tackling psychosocial risks such as time pressure, long hours, and job insecurity. The rise of digitalisation brings new set of challenges, while stigma around mental health continues to hinder meaningful action. Many employers still lack awareness and resources, making stronger policies, cultural shifts, and collaboration more urgent than ever.
In an exclusive interview, Roxana Mînzatu, European Commission Executive Vice-President for Social Rights and Skills, sets out her vision for a more resilient and inclusive labour market. She reflects on the role of social dialogue, the importance of fair working conditions, and the need to align EU policies with the issues faced by workers during green and digital transitions: “The competitiveness objectives depend on the good working conditions of the Europeans”.
