Automation and technological change in woodworking and forestry

The woodworking and forestry sectors are currently navigating a pivotal moment as they adapt to rapid technological advancements and increasing sustainability demands. The event, organised by the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW) - the official campaign partner of the Healthy Workplaces Campaign (HWC) 2023-25 'Safe and healthy work in the digital age', and supported by European Trade Union Institute for Research (ETUI), will delve into the implications of the European Green Deal, emphasising the necessity for innovative approaches to forest management and wood product processing.

This workshop will offer an engaging platform for EFBWW affiliates to explore the integration of automation and cutting-edge technologies in the industry. Discussions will focus on how robotics and automation can enhance production efficiency and product quality, fostering greater precision and consistency.

Nevertheless, the introduction of these advancements also raises important challenges, including work organisation, occupational safety and health (OSH) risks, and the demand for upskilling and training - issues that will equally be central to the dialogue.

Overall, the event will provide participants with the opportunity to connect with industry experts, exchange experiences, and collaboratively tackle the challenges and opportunities that arise from technological transformation in the woodworking and forestry sectors.
