The event will explore the impact of artificial intelligence (AI)-based systems and advanced collaborative robots (cobots) on occupational safety and health. Organised by our Portuguese focal point Autoridade para as Condições do Trabalho, the objective of the seminar is to highlight both the opportunities and potential challenges automation brings to the workplace for both workers and employers. Attendees will learn how, by taking over high-risk, repetitive and non-creative tasks, these technologies can significantly improve workplace safety. Workers can be relieved from monotonous and dangerous duties, allowing them to focus on more creative, low-risk tasks that demand human expertise. This shift has the potential to improve job satisfaction and productivity, as well as decreasing work-related injuries and illnesses. Experts will share how, despite these benefits, emerging risks like overreliance as well as loss of human situational awareness and specific skills need to be tackled. For this, they will present research on the topic carried out by EU-OSHA and Portuguese actors. The event will feature a debate with social partners and participants. Stakeholders including OSH experts, physicians and labour inspectors will have the opportunity to reflect on the findings, share their experiences and discuss strategies to mitigate the risks associated with automation. Moderator: Emília Telo, Coordinator of the National Focal Point of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, Authority for Labour Conditions Speakers: Emília Telo, Coordinator of the National Focal Point of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, Authority for Labour Conditions Joana Santos, Lecturer, School of Health, Polytechnic Institute of Porto João Silva Sequeira, Lecturer, Instituto Superior Técnico Fernando Gomes, Workers' Representative on the EU-OSHA Board of Directors, General Confederation of Portuguese Workers - National Trade Union Confederation - CGTP-IN Marcelino Pena Costa, Employers' Representative on the Board of EU-OSHA, Confederação Geral de Trabalhadores Portugueses - Intersindical Nacional - CGTP-IN OSHA, Confederation of Commerce and Services of Portugal - CCP Autoridade para as Condições do Trabalho hwc@bilbomatica.es Europe/Madrid public
