A recent webinar hosted by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), one of the official campaign partners of the Healthy Workplaces Campaign (HWC) 2023-25 'Safe and healthy work in the digital age', brought together industry and advocacy experts to discuss how technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), can be utilised to support equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in occupational settings.

The event, chaired by IOSH President Kelly Nicoll, featured thought-provoking presentations from Filippo Sinicato, Policy and Project Officer at the European Disability Forum, Neil Milliken, Vice President and Global Head of Accessibility and Digital Inclusion at Atos, and Dr Majid Al-Kader, CEO of MX Reality.

Filippo Sinicato presented findings from European research on the employment of people with disabilities. Among the results were that only one in four employers has policies addressing the inclusion of individuals with disabilities, and 80% lack codified guidelines for the acquisition of assistive technology. Neil Milliken highlighted how businesses can adopt digital innovation to foster accessibility and inclusion, while Dr Majid Al-Kader showcased the MetaDiverse project - the world’s most comprehensive metaverse designed for cultural awareness - where users engage with authentic, experiential learning to deepen cultural understanding.

This engaging discussion resonated with a diverse audience of professionals keen to understand the role of digitalisation in reshaping workplaces for the better.
