Tackling carcinogens at work in the digital age in Bulgaria

Occupational risks as diverse as digitalisation and carcinogens are changing workplaces across Bulgaria, making it essential to spark a conversation about their impact on occupational safety and health (OSH). Aiming to raise awareness of work-related risk prevention, especially those associated with digital advancements and exposure to harmful substances, our national focal point Ministry of Labour and Social Policy is hosting an event.

A central theme of the event will be the analysis of Directive 2004/37/EC, which addresses the protection of workers from risks related to exposure to carcinogens or mutagens at work. This directive, important in shaping the legal framework for OSH in the EU, regulates the implementation of preventive measures to minimise and monitor the exposure to these dangerous substances. The event will discuss how this directive has been transposed into national legislation and its effectiveness in safeguarding Bulgarian workers.

Discussions will also cover the role of digital tools in monitoring and managing workplace health risks, and the importance of continuous education and training for workers and employers. The event aims to highlight the need for a proactive approach to occupational health and safety in the evolving digital age to an audience of trade union members, representatives from enterprises and labour organisations and policy-makers.
