Webinar on robotics in construction: Opportunities, challenges and worker safety

A webinar discussing the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of robots in the construction sector has been organised by our Romanian focal point Institutul Naţional de Cercetare - Dezvoltare pentru Protecţia Muncii ''Alexandru Darabont'' - INCDPM, București.

Aimed at stakeholders across the industry including robot manufacturers and construction firms, the event will focus on how robotic technology can transform safety standards in a sector known for its high rate of workplace accidents.

The webinar will open with a general presentation of EU-OSHA’s latest studies and projects concerning robotics and occupational safety and health (OSH). This segment will explore the intersection of automation and workplace safety, showing how robots, when implemented effectively, can minimise risks traditionally associated with manual labour.

One of the highlights of the event will be an examination of how robots can reduce the number of accidents in the construction industry. OSH professionals will provide concrete examples and case studies of how robots have successfully mitigated dangers on job sites.

The session will also present insights into the manufacturing process of these robots, offering a technical overview of how robot manufacturers can design machines that ensure not only optimal functionality but also comply with safety and health standards.

The challenges of integrating robots into work environments that require close collaboration between machines and human workers will also be addressed. Speakers will explore key issues such as the potential for miscommunication between workers and robots, safety risks arising from inadequate training and the need for ongoing supervision.
