Work Health Day in Estonia: Addressing wellbeing in the digital workplace

The upcoming Estonian Work Health Day promises to be an insightful event, bringing together a range of experts and professionals to discuss the critical challenges facing modern workplaces. The event hosted by our national focal point Labour Inspectorate of Estonia (Tööinspektsioon), will discuss how as the work environment continues to evolve, particularly with the growing reliance on digital platforms, how to navigate the complexities of working in the digital age. Occupational health and safety, particularly in the context of teleworking, will take centre stage throughout the day’s discussions.

Participants will have the opportunity to hear from leading experts in the field, each with deep knowledge and practical experience. These specialists will tackle important topics, such as the risks associated with digital overload and the increasing demand for flexible working hours. As many businesses have shifted towards remote work, the conference will offer key insights on how organisations can effectively support their employees while maintaining a healthy and productive work environment.

The day’s programme will include valuable sessions on OSH requirements for teleworking, along with discussions on the agreements that should be in place to ensure a safe and fair work arrangement. A dedicated session will explore whether employers have the right to monitor their staff through cameras, a topic that has gained prominence as more companies adopt teleworking solutions. This will be complemented by a presentation on experiences of using cameras in the workplace, offering real-world insights into the balance between monitoring and respecting employee privacy.

In addition to the conference's rich line-up of expert speakers, the event will bring together a diverse audience, including working environment specialists, commissioners, occupational health service providers and students. This broad participation will foster a collaborative atmosphere, encouraging dialogue and the exchange of best practices from across Estonia.

The culmination of the day will be the much-anticipated announcement of the Estonian Good Workplace Award 2024, which recognises excellence in fostering a positive working environment. The award will celebrate the efforts of organisations that have demonstrated innovation and leadership in supporting the wellbeing of their employees, providing inspiration for others to follow.
