Workers with mental disorders in a digitalised world: challenges, opportunities and needs
The article provides an overview of how how workers with diagnosed and undiagnosed mental disorders (MDs) cope differently with work, technology/digitalisation and relational demands. Disclosure of an MD at work is often difficult for the employee due to stigmas. Therefor employers should stimulate a culture change supporting confidentiality and .
Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic had an important impact on the spread of digitalised work (especially telework) and on the increase of mental disorders. The article underlines the need for tailored approaches, trust building, and general acknowledgement reflected by adequate regulatory and organisational support. Advancing research in the field is increasingly important as to ensure that the needs workers with MDs are met in a changing world of work.
