AI-based systems can be purely software-based, acting in the virtual world (e.g. voice assistants, image analysis software, search engines, speech and face recognition systems) or AI can be embedded in hardware devices (e.g. advanced robots, autonomous cars, drones or Internet of things applications). in a productive and beneficial way. 

Gian explains how IBM has witnessed not only productivity gains but also an increase in employee satisfaction as IBM has introduced AI and automated certain human resources tasks. He explains the key principles IBM has in place to maximise benefits for management and employees in this transformation: human-centred, task-oriented, worker involvement, thoughtful deployment and upskilling.
