Higher job automation risk in routine and precarious work, CEDEFOP AI skill survey finds

The EU Agency Cedefop has published the first insights from its Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills survey.
Key findings show that about one in seven workers in European workplaces usually work with digital tools or applications that can automatically do some of their tasks, using algorithms. Also, 61% of European workers agree that it is fairly or very likely that they will need new knowledge and skills to cope with the impact of AI tools on their work in the next five years.
First insights also reveal that, whereas there is a growing divergence in the frequency of use of technologies between European countries, the risk of job is higher in routine and precarious jobs. This is more relevant in lower-skilled occupations in which workers use computerised machines to carry out their job tasks.
With the aim of analysing the impact of AI on workers’ skills and needs for skilling, and , the survey was conducted in spring 2024, asking 5,342 employees from 11 EU countries questions around the use of AI technologies, job , and the companies’ support to the IA adoption.
