According to the ESENER survey, newly commissioned by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, the most common risk factors in European workplaces are prolonged sitting (64%) and repetitive hand or arm movements (63%). In Finland, the most significant risk is repetitive hand or arm movements (73%) and, unlike in the rest of Europe, stress caused by time pressure (71%).
The survey also shows that is more common in Finland than in the rest of Europe. In Finland, more than 40 per cent of workplaces report regular remote work, which is significantly more than the EU average (23%).
"
offers flexibility and reduces traditional stress factors. For example, it may be easier to regulate your own work in
than in the office. However, abundant remote work can create new risks, such as blurring of the boundaries between working time and leisure time and employees' experiences of loneliness. Controlling these risks must be taken into account in the management of remote work," says Kirsi Ahola, Director at the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health.
