Add to my calendar 2024-11-07 01:00:00 2024-11-07 01:00:00 Building safer workplaces for the digital age in Athens An upcoming event hosted by our Greek focal point Hellenic Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs will raise awareness on occupational safety and health (OSH) in an evolving digital landscape. This initiative aims to provide attendees with information on the Healthy Workplaces Campaign and its overarching goals. By presenting these objectives, organisers aim at empowering participants to take an active role in promoting safe practices within their workplaces, not only addressing the professional risks posed by digital technologies but also considering the broader implications for individuals’ private lives. Social partners will present their official positions, reaffirming their dedication and commitment to the promotion and successful implementation of the campaign. Emphasis will be placed on the need to integrate OSH principles into education, vocational training and lifelong learning frameworks. Other sessions within the event will be dedicated to unveiling a newly developed tool aimed at preventing musculoskeletal disorders, discussing Umbrella term to indicate digital systems for monitoring and enhancing workers’ safety and health including for example smart PPE (that can identify levels of gases, toxins, noise levels and high-risk temperatures), wearables (able to interact with workers, with sensors that may be embedded in hardhats or safety glasses), mobile or static systems that use cameras and sensors (e.g. drones that effectively reach and monitor dangerous areas of work sites avoiding to put humans in danger in the construction and the mining industries). and their applications within the OSH field, as well as shedding light on new legislative measures concerning carcinogens, mutagens and dangerous substances. This initiative focuses on the role played by approved consultants in risk prevention and safety management, highlighting the growing trend towards digital and remote working environments and associated emerging challenges.  The seminar will deliver presentations on the regulatory frameworks that govern worker health surveillance and the importance of occupational risk assessments, followed by an analysis of the changing nature of work due to digitalisation, including how technological progress influences OSH requirements. A highlight of the event will be an exploration of remote working challenges and how conventional office-based safety protocols must adapt to address new and varied risks. Discussions will cover the importance of regulatory flexibility to allow legislative frameworks to remain robust and responsive to changing work modalities.
