On 27 May, CEMBUREAU and the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW), both longstanding partners of the Healthy Workplaces Campaign (HWC) 2023-25 'Safe and healthy work in the digital age', hosted a high-level event in Brussels to address the future skills needed in the cement industry, as it undergoes decarbonisation and digital transformation.

The conference is the culmination of a two-year EU co-funded project examining how green technologies and digital processes are reshaping job profiles across the sector.

The programme included the presentation of new research and joint policy recommendations, with contributions from key stakeholders such as Mario Nava, Director-General at DG Employment of European Commission, and representatives from the industry, trade unions and the European Parliament. A roundtable discussion focused on practical steps for implementing the recommendations, highlighting policy, social dialogue and tailored training initiatives.

This latest event builds on the ongoing dialogue established throughout the project. In fact, last year CEMBUREAU released a dedicated podcast episode featuring Communications Manager Bade Kızılaslan and EFBWW Secretary General Tom Deleu. The conversation explored the project's development, the vital role of union engagement, and the value of collaborative strategies to meet the evolving demands of the sector.
