Embracing the Future: How digitalisation is revolutionising OSH in Cyprus

As digitalisation continues to transform industries worldwide, the intersection of OSH and innovative technologies is becoming crucial in shaping safer, smarter workplaces. During European Week for Safety and Health at Work, an event focusing on the promotion of workplace safety and the wellbeing of employees. The event, hosted by our national focal point Department of Labour Inspection, Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, will bring together professionals from various sectors to highlight the achievements of businesses and schools in advancing safety practices. It promises to offer valuable insights into how organisations and institutions can contribute to fostering safer and healthier working environments, while also recognising outstanding efforts through a series of awards.

The event will begin with an address from a key government minister responsible for labour and social insurance matters, offering their perspective on the significance of safety in the workplace. This opening speech will set the tone for the event, underlining the importance of proactive measures to ensure worker safety and the role that government policy can play in supporting these efforts.

Following the formal address, awards will be distributed to the winners of several competitions that have been organised to promote awareness and innovation. The competitions will showcase examples of good practice from both businesses and schools and will also feature a poster competition created by school students. These awards serve as recognition of the excellent work done by companies and educational institutions to improve health and safety standards, encouraging others to follow suit. The celebration of these achievements underscores the importance of integrating safety measures into everyday work and learning environments.

The second half of the event will focus on the impact of digitalisation in workplaces, an increasingly relevant topic as industries continue to evolve with new technologies. Presentations will explore how digital tools are reshaping workplace safety, with a particular emphasis on the ongoing EU campaign that seeks to address safety and health challenges in the digital age. This campaign, running from 2023 to 2025, highlights the need for organisations to adapt to changes brought about by the growing digital landscape, ensuring that workers are protected in an increasingly tech-driven environment.

One of the highlights of the event will be a detailed presentation showcasing an innovative digital application that monitors safety and health in the workplace. This application, which earned first place in the Good Practice Examples Competition, demonstrates how cutting-edge technology can be harnessed to improve safety outcomes. It provides a practical example of how businesses can use digital tools to safeguard their employees, offering inspiration for other organisations seeking to modernise their own safety protocols.
