Principles for implementation and use: smart digital systems to improve workers’ safety and health

Smart digital systems can help improve occupational safety and health (OSH) by detecting unsafe workplace conditions. However, there remain barriers to their effective implementation and adoption.

This policy brief provides key considerations for overcoming barriers to the use of smart digital systems. These include ensuring data security and privacy, communicating their purpose for OSH, properly integrating them with companies’ infrastructure and their existing OSH frameworks, and cooperation between the implementing company and product manufacturer.
