Priority areas

Mental health

1 in 6 people in the EU are affected by mental health problems, such as anxiety and depressive disorders. Mental health problems can seriously affect everyday activities, including work.

Even when mental health problems are not work-related, a supportive and respectful work environment can make a big difference – for those affected, and the workplace as a whole.

Adapting workplaces can include different solutions, such as setting up quieter workplaces with less distractions, temporary adjustments to work duties, telework and flexible working hours. Even small actions can make a difference.

Most importantly, creating an inclusive workplace requires breaking down the barrier of stigma surrounding mental health. Nearly half of EU workers believe that disclosing a mental health condition would negatively impact their career, according to the OSH Pulse 2025.
