Enhancing worker health and safety through AI-driven systems: implications of the Artificial Intelligence Act
The AI Act establishes harmonised EU rules for the development, marketing, deployment and use of AI systems. This paper explores the opportunities and challenges it creates for existing and emerging AI-driven occupational safety and health systems, with a focus on prohibitions, exceptions and areas of ambiguity. It also stresses that, as the AI Act complements existing EU and national legislation, compliance with it alone does not guarantee the lawful use of such technologies in the workplace.
